Aims and Scope
Linguistics is the study of language and is essential to understanding human thinking systems. The purpose of the Korean Journal of Linguistics (KJL) is to publish papers reporting meaningful research results on theoretical and experimental problems for understanding the structure of human language. The KJL includes important topics for theoretical and experimental studies of language phenomena (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics) and applied studies (language acquisition, language education, historical linguistics, psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, cognitive linguistics, computational linguistics, and neurolinguistics). It plays an important role in sharing research results and determining the direction of future linguistic research. By covering all fields of language research, it contributes to understanding the structure of language as a whole and securing the relevance and expandability of research questions between different sub-fields. Through its research on various languages (Korean, English, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, etc.) and cross-linguistic comparisons, it became a forum for sharing empirical data on both universal and specific characteristics of languages. In keeping with the development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the KJL has recently published papers in diversified fields including computational linguistics, neurolinguistics, and psycholinguistics.
The KJL is published by the Linguistic Society of Korea (LSK) which is Korea's representative linguistics society. The LSK has led the development of linguistics research since its foundation in 1975 as the origin of Korean modern linguistics research. The KJL has published a total of 1,348 papers from the publication of Volume 1 Issue 1 in 1976 to Volume 46 Issue 2 in June 2021. It has served as an important forum to share the outstanding research achievements of LSK members. In recognition of its representativeness and excellence in modern linguistics research in Korea, its strict submission management system, and its influence on linguistic research, it was selected in 2017 as an excellent academic journal by the National Research Foundation of Korea.
The KJL is a peer-reviewed journal that is published four times a year. The international and domestic editorial board members of the KJL have outstanding research achievements in each field of linguistics studies. The editorial board members discuss and decide on matters regarding the reviews and editorial revisions of the manuscripts submitted for publication to the KJL and the establishment of long-term plans on the development of the journal. Submitted papers are evaluated by three anonymous reviewers based on their authors’ compliance with academic standards, research methodology applicability, clarity and organization, integrity in paper writing, accuracy of the references cited, topic originality, contributions to the field, the quality of the English abstract, and relevance to the fields covered by the KJL.
