Editorial Board Regulations of the Korean Journal of Linguistics
Chapter 1 Composition and Functions of the Editorial Board
Article 1 (Composition and Term): The Editorial Board of the Korean Journal of Linguistics (KJL) is composed of one editor-in-chief, three associate editors, and 25-30 editorial board members who have outstanding research achievements in each field of linguistics studies. The editor-in-chief, associate editors, and editorial board members serve for three years, but they can be reappointed.
Article 2 (Functions): The Editorial Board’s function discusses and decides on matters concerning the following: the reviews and editorial revisions of the manuscripts submitted for publication to the KJL; the editing and publication of the KJL; the publication of books on the study of language and linguistics; the collection and dissemination of linguistic materials; and the establishment regarding long-term plans on the development of the KJL.
Chapter 2 Manuscript Submission
Article 3 (LSK Members): Manuscript submission is limited to the members of the Linguistic Society of Korea (LSK).
Article 4 (Membership Registration): Non-members can register as members before submitting a manuscript. Membership registration is available on the LSK website (http://www.linguistics.or.kr/), and inquiries about membership should be directed to the LSK office (linguistics2122@gmail.com).
Chapter 3 Manuscript Formats
Article 5 (Manuscript Formats): When submitting a new manuscript, it is acceptable for the author(s) not to follow the specific editorial format, and a generally accepted paper-writing format is permitted.
Article 6 (Final Version Formats): When submitting a revised or final version of the manuscript after the completion of the review process, the author(s) must follow the paper-editing format presented as HWP or WORD templates on the KJL website.
Article 7 (Paper-Writing Language): The KJL accepts manuscripts written in English or Korean. Basic bibliographic information (title, author(s), affiliation(s), volume, issue, and pages) and abstracts must be written in English.
Chapter 4 Publication Conditions
Article 8 (Publication Restrictions):
- Papers that have already been published cannot be submitted. If a paper that is submitted is found to be a duplicate publication, the editor-in-chief may nullify the publication decision upon the consensus of the editorial committee.
- Submitted papers must be original in terms of the data, research methods, and result descriptions. If plagiarism has occurred before the submitted paper is published, the editor-in-chief may nullify the publication decision following the consensus of the editorial committee. In the case of a paper having already been published, the publication of the same paper in the KJL can be canceled.
- If the submitted paper is found to have been plagiarized before or after publication, the author(s) of the paper will have their LSK membership suspended and will be barred from submitting papers to the KJL for three years from the time of discovery.
Article 9 (Pledge of Research Ethics): When submitting a paper, the author(s) must sign and submit the pledge of research ethics through the Journal & Article Management System (JAMS) of the KJL.
Chapter 5 Peer Review
Article 10 (Initial Review): After a manuscript is submitted, three peer reviewers will be appointed by the editor-in-chief based on the advice of the associate editors and editorial board members.
Article 11 (Evaluation Items): Manuscripts will be evaluated based on their authors’ compliance with academic standards, research methodology applicability, clarity and organization, integrity in paper writing, accuracy of the references cited, topic originality, contributions to the field, appropriateness of the English abstract, and relevance to the fields covered by the KJL.
Article 12 (Publication Recommendation)
- Reviewers will indicate their overall publication recommendation: “accept” (3 points), “accept with minor revisions” (3 points), “resubmit with major revisions” (1 point), and “reject” (0 point).
- If the sum of the three reviewers' scores is six or more, the manuscript will be judged as a pass.
- If the sum of the three reviewers’ scores is less than or equal to five, the manuscript in the issue in question will be rejected for publication. However, when the sum of the review scores is five, the author can revise the manuscript and enter into the re-examination process for the next issue. After re-examination, the passing decision requirements are the same as in the case of the initial review.
- The number of publications in each issue of the KJL will be decided by the editor-in-chief after the review processes are finished, following the advice of the editorial committee and the opinions of the contributors. If there are no special circumstances, manuscripts will be published in the publication issue relevant to the time the publication decision is made.
Chapter 6 Review and Publication Fees
Article 13 (Review Fees): To submit a manuscript to the KJL, author(s) must pay an annual fee and a review fee to the LSK. Contributors must deposit the review fee to the LSK bank account. The review fee is 60,000 won per manuscript.
Article 14 (Publication Fees): When a paper is published in the KJL, the publication fee must be paid. After a publication decision regarding a manuscript is made, the LSK will notify the author(s) regarding the payment of the publication fee.
- If a paper is written with external support and these matters are specified in the article, the costs are 300,000 won for the first 25 pages and 15,000 won per page for the excess.
- In other cases, the costs are 100,000 won for the first 20 pages and 15,000 won per page for the excess.
- If the contributor is a graduate student, the costs are 50,000 won for the first 20 pages and 15,000 won per page for the excess. In the case of co-authored papers, if at least one author is not a graduate student, the general publication fee must be paid.

Chapter 7 Journal Publication
Article 15 (Journal Issues): The KJL is published four times a year based on the following schedule: Issue 1 on March 31; Issue 2 on June 30; Issue 3 on September 30; and Issue 4 on December 31.
Article 16 (Journal Dissemination): The published papers will be sent to individual members by e-mail and can be downloaded from the KJL website without the need to log in. Twenty off-print copies of the published paper will be sent to the author(s) of the paper.
